Taking a few preventative measures can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim:

Lock doors and windows at all times, even when at home or just popping out briefly

Use lights on timers or smart lighting to give the appearance someone is home

Secure sheds, garages, and gates, especially where tools are stored

Consider CCTV, video doorbells, or alarm systems if available

Hide valuables away from windows and keep keys out of sight

Cancel or redirect deliveries if you’re away, and avoid advertising this on social media

Get to know your neighbours – looking out for each other is one of the strongest deterrents
